Which artist is right for your fine line tattoo?

All of our artists can create dainty, feminine fine line tattoos, from dates, names and quotes to intricate, ornate pieces. Here's a quick guide to help you choose:

Autumn specialises in fine line, realism, surrealism, micro realism and colour. She's known for clean lines, incredible attention to detail and open, honest consultations about how your design will heal and age.
Nakara specialises in fine line, blackwork, ornamental and illustrative styles, creating custom, meaningful designs that blend delicate detail with timeless impact. Nakara manages her own bookings.
Kayla, one of our apprentices, has completed the fine line stage of her apprenticeship and over 100 tattoos. Apprentice tattoos are offered at discounted prices that increase as skills progress.

Melinda, our owner and senior artist, began her own tattoo journey in fine line and has passed those skills on to the artists and apprentices at Rose & Thorn. She now focuses on large scale realism and medical tattooing.

Designed for you, built to last

Every fine line tattoo we create is custom designed. We don't copy other artists' work, but we love seeing reference images and inspiration so we understand the look you're after.

Fine line work needs room to breathe. Our artists will give you honest advice on size and placement so your tattoo stays crisp and readable as it heals and ages.

Your design is completed in advance and ready for you to review on the morning of your appointment. We'll make any final tweaks with you on the day before we start.

How much does a fine line tattoo cost?

Our studio has a minimum price of $250. Each artist works as a sole trader and sets their own rates, so your quote will depend on your chosen artist, the size of your tattoo and the amount of detail involved.

When you send us your idea, measurements, placement and reference images, your artist will give you an estimated timeframe and price. A deposit (minimum $200 per day booked) secures your appointment and comes off the cost of your tattoo on the day.

If you'd like a lower price point, ask about our apprentice tattoos. Our apprentices offer heavily discounted tattoos while they train, with prices that increase as they progress.

A calm, welcoming studio

We're not your typical tattoo shop. No dark rooms, no intimidating energy and no rushed work. Rose & Thorn is a light, private and tranquil studio in the glass-front building at 144 Campbell Street, Toowoomba City. We're fully licensed (licence #4650307), follow strict QLD health regulations, and all our artists hold Infection Control Certificates.

Fine line tattoos are a beautiful choice for a first tattoo, and we love helping nervous first-timers feel at ease.

Fine line tattoo FAQs

Can I get a really tiny fine line tattoo? Yes, we create micro tattoos. Our artists will let you know if your design needs to be a little larger to stay clear and readable over time. Keep in mind our studio minimum of $250 applies to every tattoo.

Can you tattoo a loved one's handwriting? Absolutely. Sentimental hand-written script is one of our favourite requests. Upload a clear photo of the handwriting with your booking form.

Will you send my design before the appointment? Designs aren't sent out in advance. Your design will be ready for review on the morning of your first appointment, and we'll work with you on the day to get it just right.

How far in advance should I book? Our artists are in high demand and are often booked out two to three months in advance. Follow us on Instagram (@roseandthorntattoostudio), where we share last-minute cancellation spots.

Do I need to be 18? Yes. Queensland law requires you to be 18 to get a tattoo, even with parent or guardian consent.
